My life has revolved around dance since I was six years old. At the tender age of 16 (after qualifying in tap, ballet and jazz with the British Ballet Organisation) I turned professional and moved south. In London, I began to style myself as an artist - and my love for movement and dance deepened further.

Alongside this ran my passion for photography: I have always been fascinated by the ways in which a single image can engender different emotional responses depending on the person looking at it. The sheer ebullience of the occasion suited my ethos and I became determined to convey my individuality through the image.When I returned to Sheffield, to work as a ballet teacher in my family’s dance school, I took the opportunity to capture images of dance students. Their comments and requests for me to do the photoshoots for their portfolios, gave me the confidence to set up as a photographer.

Since then, and mostly by personal recommendation, I have extended my portfolio with commissions from a range of clients. These photoshoots take place in my studio or outdoors. When I have a spare moment, I like nothing more than taking time out to capture images of the mundane and the unusual.Perhaps unsurprisingly, my photographic style is heavily influenced by dance – the challenge of conveying movement in still images is one that I really enjoy.
