My name is Liam Shaffer and I was born and raised in the small town of Moscow, Pennsylvania. Needless to say in a small town there is not much around to do, especially for someone with a creative mind like myself. So I spent the early years of my life constantly looking for different and unique ways to express myself that would stand out from the rest. In a town overrun with closed-minded people, a person like me that’s opened minded to new ideas can really stick out in the crowd. I was always striving to be different and break free from conformity.
I have always loved art in all its forms and beauty. I started out going to Marywood University for a degree in graphic design which allowed me to experience all the different styles of art I wanted to while focusing on graphic design. Through my time at Marywood I fell deeper in love with the arts and all their spectacular glory. After 3 semesters I became confused about exactly where I wanted to go from there and just couldn’t understand paying all that money if I wasn’t sure. I then took a break from Marywood and tried to find the one form of art I loved the most, but after 2 years I still couldn't find just one I could settle on.
In the summer of 2009 I bought my first DSLR camera with intent that I could inquire all forms of art through photography. From that point on my love and respect for photography just skyrocketed because the possibilities are endless. I am now enrolled in The New York Institute of Photography, which is an online school that is a little easier on my wallet, a much better fit to my learning style, and my time schedule as well.
While studying photography more in depth my love grows more and more with each coming day. Also I've noticed I gained this habit of critiquing any photograph I see and from time to time find myself saying, “I could take that picture better.” Some may say that is just ego talking but that’s where my story is different from the rest. I have always been a shy person, very reserved and selfless, and I always try to help out others before myself. I never put my opinions and thoughts before anyone else, because in my mind the greatest thing we as human beings are capable of is our ideas.
Now at this point in my life I am trying to establish myself as a serious photographer and get my name and photographs out there for people to see.
