Hi MMers!

My name is Ariela, and I'm a freelance retoucher. I'm here to make friends and contacts within the profession, as well as compare notes with people at my skill level and above.

I'm a native New Yorker, useless trivia fanatic, occassional purveyor of wisdom, and long-time lover of digital manipulation and the arts.

I have over a decade of experience with various forms of art, graphics, manipulation, and retouching, much of which is self taught - which means I'm familiar with both mainstream techniques as well as my own tweaks and shortcuts. I've found this to be one of the best cards I can play, because my work doesn't come out in the same cookie-cutter format that so many designers default to these days.

I LOVE to retouch. It brings me joy to make things "better", so to speak, and when I combine that love with my love of Photoshop, work becomes fun.

I do all kinds of retouching, from simple snapshot fixes to full-scale glamor shots to product advertising. Portraits are my bread and butter though. I fix color, remove blemishes, add digital makeup, digital slimming, etc. I do plenty of skin work as well, but I don't like going for the "porcelain doll look" - I try and retain as much original shape and uniqueness from subject as I can, while still making them more perfect.

One of my specialties is "de-aging". I love taking a portrait of someone older and sloughing off the years. It tickles me to have the ability to make someone look so much younger. If only that translated to real life. :p

I'm new to MM, but I hope to flesh out my portfolio as I go. I look forward to trying my hand at some of the great practice albums the photographers here put up.
