One day she’ll be known as a shape changer; one that metamorphosed music, rescued it from electronic madness and gave it back its heart.

Alisa Apps is not just a great pop artist, or a great jazz artist, or even a great R&B artist. The Los Angeles-living, Cleveland-bred vocalist is malleable enough to encompass several genres. She has the phrasing of a Billy Holiday, the voice control of a Barbara Streisand and the range of a Christina Aguilera. The camera loves her.

With the old models falling a part and everybody scrambling to find a new way, Alisa bursts forth with full artistic maturity. Half philosopher, half poet, her lyrics are breathtaking - her melodies complex. You watch her show and you swear she came from Broadway.

One moment she’s a butterfly, the next a warrior; then the sex kitten, then the tortured soul.

She takes you into her world and you bask in the warmth and glow. Then you’re off to an adventure. You scale heights of joy - then plunge to despair - then revenge – back up to triumph.

Where did she come from - this fun loving temptress who pours her heart out, gets you dancing, and tears into your soul?

And these days of artists as great as Michael Jackson lip-syncing through the show, Alisa is singing full voice doing her routine and flirting with the audience, with not a mechanical crutch to be seen.

Gutsy, she challenges Lady Gaga, the reigning pop star, to a vocal challenge.

Driven to achieve perfection in her craft you find out how much she knows about all the technical aspects of putting together an album.

Where does this compassion, a constant thread in all of her songs, come from?

I’ve been privileged to hear one song she wrote that isn’t on the album and you’d swear that she was being guided from above.

Her fans confide in her their deepest, darkest secrets and ask for her advice.

Today she brings that spiritual sense and that compassion to her songwriting. Her first release –‘Soon You’ll See (Idiot)’ is an anthem of triumph declaring to all the naysayers – the backstabbers that soon you’ll see!

What will history say about the effects of Alisa’s music on the culture of her time? I predict they will say she brought back the power of music to inspire us, and lift us to our best possible selves. As well as the playfulness and spontaneity to make us believe we can achieve anything, endure anything and laugh about it.

In a plastic world of engineered statements and carefully crafted spin Alisa arrived like a force of nature exposing the falsity for what it was - exposing the rotten core of selling out and celebrating life in all its turmoil with the iron optimism of a phoenix rising from the ashes to be born again.
