About Me

I'm a semi-professional photographer (as in, part-time, but paying taxes). My interest as applicable to MM lies in the area of portraiture. Keeping things flexible, this may include headshots, classic portraiture, and lifestyle images. I'm somewhat interested in editorial fashion, and would be open to forming a team to pursue these. For what it's worth, I'm a mostly-retired fine art model of six years or so transitioning behind the camera, and I enjoy helping newer models get comfortable with the modeling thing.

I'm realistic - there are only a few reasons a decent model needs to pay a photographer, one of which is to get marketable portfolio images for actual bookings for professional shoots with a budget. For messing around, experimenting, or collaborating on art stuff, there are TF shoots.

Current TF projects:

Senior portraits: If you're 16-20, appear high-school aged, and have a casual-fashionable wardrobe (and/or contemporary prom dress), I'm currently scheduling outdoor portrait sessions in the style of senior portraits. I anticipate that these will be usable as head shots for sorority/fraternity recruitment, job searches, etc. (If you are in need of a head shot for a job search, make sure to bring a "professional" look.)

Large-Format (ish): Starting a new project of pseudo-large format portraits (will be shooting run of the mill digital, but an experimental technique which mimics the extreme shallow depth of field of large format). Looking for guinea pigs for the first images. Either woke-up-this-way or very "artistic" looks, not looking for glamour or heavy traditional makeup for this. I'm very open on model types right now. You should expect anywhere from one to four images from this shoot - it's pretty labor-intensive and somewhat unpredictable in outcome. I'll probably shoot a few images not related to the project, in which case you'll also get some of those.

Besides these TF projects, I'm open to other concepts, so feel free to pitch it. If your idea is outside my interest area or skill set, I'll let you know.

SHOOTING WITH ME

Depending on the type of images we're shooting and how many variations on look and location, you might get anywhere from 2 or 3 to 15 finished, edited images; averaging somewhere around 7. Honestly, you shouldn't be adding more than one or two images from a single photo session to your portfolio unless they're just volumes better than what you have.

I'll try to remember to clarify ahead of time, but if you're not sure what to expect, please ask. I won't give you the full set of images we shot, and I don't give out RAW or unedited images. If you have special circumstances (for instance, needing an unretouched head shot for a casting call) please let me know ahead of time and I will most likely be happy to accommodate the request.

Usually, I'll make my own selections based on my preferences and my assessment of what looks best. I don't anticipate selecting any images that you would be appalled to see online.

SEEKING

Models: trade relationships for portraiture, head shots, lifestyle, etc. I hope to work with new or experienced models, as well as non-models. Ideally, you're comfortable in your skin, and willing to relax and try poses and movements without fear of looking silly. I'm especially looking for natural redheads, freckles, interesting facial features, clear skin, and industry-standard stats. (Not all at the same time.)

At this point, shoots are for my own experience and mutual portfolio building. I have no contacts to get you published, nor commercial clients to license images to. Should this change, I will shout it from the rooftops. If I ask you to sign anything, it will be a written agreement that we may both use the images for self-promotion, including possible publication submissions.

While I am not at this time seeking releases for commercial use, for certain projects, I may be interested in displaying edited images as fine art photos online or in physical venues, possibly for sale to art patrons.

IMAGE USE

I may post images on MM, Facebook, tumblr, Instagram, or my own professional website(s) for purposes of self-promotion. I will credit models and other creative team members as appropriate unless you request not to be credited.

You will receive a handful of the best digital images from our collaboration in web-sized, simply-watermarked files. Print-sized, high-resolution files will be available upon request, selectable from the web-sized set.

Please post on the web ONLY the watermarked images, unless otherwise agreed. Do not attempt to remove my copyright, watermark, logo, or metadata, including cropping for social media profiles. If you need a certain dimension that my existing watermark doesn't accommodate, please let me know and I will send you a cropped version. Please be polite and credit/link as appropriate on all websites and social media.

Photographers: I'm interested in trade-for-access relationships. I have over three years of assisting experience, including weddings, commercial studio and location shoots, fine art, and guerilla shoots. I also spent about six years modeling (mostly fine art) and I'm good at posing other people when I'm not the one with the camera. I may be willing to assist in exchange for the loan of Canon-compatible lenses, use of studio lighting/space, or possibly simply for your mentorship, etc., particularly in the areas of lighting, workflow, and business knowledge.
