About Me

I first studied hair and make up in Spain. I contributed to the creation of the book “ALTA PELUQUERIA”, which aimed at setting hairdressing trends and techniques. It was very successful and as a result was widely distributed in Spain to hair salons.
In 1991 I opened a hair salon named “LA BARAQUE.” From the very beginning the salon became the centre of activity for my experiments in the fields of fashion and performing arts, and resulted in the publication of my work in the magazines “VOGUE SPAIN, PRIMERA LINEA and VANIDAD.” The success of “LA BARAQUE” led to my decision to move to London with the aim of opening a new space.
This second project was named “PEPI’S” and the salon has been thriving in the alternative fashion district of Camden since 1995. Within this time I began to pioneer new hair extension techniques involving the use of materials such as plastic and wool, I
created new hairstyles based on volume and colour, which brought inspiration to other artists and designers as well as London’s street cultures. A steady business flow and exposure to the British and International media resulted in the filming of short documentaries which were aired on MTV EUROPE and a U.S TV program called “OH LA LA”. My work has appeared in ITALIAN VOGUE, VANITY FAIR, HELLO, BIG, THE TIME, PAPER MAGAZINE (NY), LOADED and SKIN TWO, and I made a hairpiece for Cher’s videoclip “BELIEVE”.
Pepi’s growing popularity took me on a journey to Tokyo Japan in 1997 where I was invited by the Japanese company, “ALICE INTERNATIONAL” to host a series of workshops.
During this first trip to Tokyo, I was introduced to Japanese artists and producers including representatives from the company “VISION NETWORK.” This company took great interest in my work which led to the opening of “PEPI’S TOKYO,” a cutting edge hair salon and wig- makers studio in 1998. I personally managed the space and operated the business as my own. In the four years I spent in Japan (1998-2002), my work was regularly featured in magazines such as SPEAK, ZAVTONE, POPEYE, KEROUAC, TOO NEGATIVE, BURST, OBSCURE, STREET FASHION and FLOOR. I worked in collaboration with the famous Butoh Dance Company “SAL VANILLA,” as well as staging three fashion shows showcasing my hair and conceptual design works at CODE, VISION NETWORK and PYLON.
After twenty years working in the hairdressing industry, and collaborating with artists from various genres and backgrounds, I have decided to transcend the time and space limitations of working in a salon. I am currently compiling a book of hair and make up, future styles and new visions, including some reflections on fashion, art, culture and travels which have been at the centre of my world from the very beginning of my career.
I am continually updating my knowledge, which is versatile and eclectic ranging from natural beauty styles, to haute couture and cutting-edge trends.
I have a bright, cosmopolitan personality and I made culture and travelling the essence of my creativity.
