About Me

Carlos Torres was born on November 17th 1977 in Los Angeles Ca. After moving around as a young child, his family moved to Gardena ca. There Carlos found his love for art. Since a young child Carlos interests were sports, Baseball cards and comics. He soon became intrigued by the art in comic books. Trying to draw the characters in comic books, he soon started to draw everything he could. In the 3rd grade Carlos won his first art contest. From there it was mostly art for him. As he grew older, he became interested in other mediums of art other than drawing. In high school he took art classes to learn more about art and the history of art as well as try to broaden his views on art. In his senior year in high school a friend of his made him a homemade tattoo machine. This would open up a whole new level of art and change his life forever. That same day he went home and when his little brother got home from school, he did his very first tattoo on his brothers leg. Not knowing what he was doing or how to do it all he wanted to do was learn at how to get better at this new craft.

Carlos took a few jobs soon after as well as working at the airport refueling planes. His true passion remained art and he kept drawing and tattooing friends out of his house. Soon small pieces started to turn into friends asking for bigger pieces. A friend he knew opened a shop in East Los Angeles and offered an opportunity to work there as an artist. He was excited and jumped at the chance. following his passion for art he pursued his love for tattooing. With work being slow and very little clients for him to work on, Carlos soon left that shop and took a job at tattoo shop in orange county Ca. By this time he was making huge strides in his art and was influenced by popular artists such as Robert Hernandez,Paul Booth, Jack Rudy and others. Mostly self taught he would find himself at So. Cal Tattoo in San pedro ca and visit often mostly trying to gather insight and other knowledge about tattoo art.

On a visit to So. Cal tattoo, Carlos was offered a position and opportunity at the shop. Very excited to work at such a popular shop, here is where Carlos learned the most in his craft. Learning and being able to work alongside such great artists as Ethan and Teri Morgan and Tom Berg, Carlos soaked up all he could. After a while he began to slowly build a clientele, with customers coming back for more work from Carlos. Still listening and learning everyday he remained at So.Cal tattoo for 10 years.

Carlos continues to paint, whether it be commission pieces or for pleasure, After doing the flyer for the Ink-n-Iron Tattoo Convention in Long Beach ca the past 2 years, he is currently working on the 2011 Ink-n-Iron Tattoo convention poster. Some of Carlos’ other projects include, continuing to work with Sullen Clothing and Tribal Clothing. Recently himself and Ryan Smith of Sullen collaborated and released a series of shirts for the rap/rock group Cypress Hill, being featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live and the Cypress Hill Smokeout Tour.

Carlos currently works at his studio he co-owns with fellow artists Alan Padilla and Jed Mardesich tattooing and painting in his free time. Taking workshops and painting with accomplished artists Shawn Barber, Kevin Llewellyn and Michael Hussar. This year will include even more international travel, conventions and guest spots, learning and gaining as much inspiration as he can from fellow artists, life and travels.
