I attended Long Island Beauty School in Hempstead NY and after 6 months I entered the

industry as a professional at EHD hair designs. It didn’t take long for me to gain notoriety as I

quickly established a clientele solely based on my haircutting skills. In 1994, I and my then

business partner Sheila Nixon decided to found and open the renowned Shades of Essence Hair

Designers. As the years went by, I became a force to be reckoned with in the industry, from

features on the covers and in numerous hair magazines, to Q & A columns on hair coloring in

Trends. I was known as the no nonsense coordinator of numerous photo and video shoot

sessions for major publications throughout the industry. Consequently, I was summoned to

take part in the editing process of the longest running black hair magazine, International Black

Passion. It is through my vision, the company THE EDGE has been founded. I continue to

juggle motherhood, a beauty salon, photo and video shoots, long travels from city to city for

continuing education. However, I continue to demonstrate tenacity and drive. Through my

teachings and mentoring, ninety percent of my once novice hair stylists have moved on to

become successful business owners.
