I've been shooting professionally for newspapers for several years and am now in the process of building a photo business. My specialization is people, which is a pretty broad genre. It's where my experience lies and I like working with people. But where I've traditionally striven to capture moments in time, I'm now focusing my energies on creating moments in time. This opens the door to art, which is what really makes photography fun.
As I always have, I strive to tell a story with each image. But now that I'm out from under the thumb of the daily deadline, I have a lot more time to explore the use of light to create moods and tension. As a result, I've been investing heavily in light-manipulation tools: flashes and triggers, screens and reflectors, gels and such. Lately I've been working with a couple of bands doing album covers with them.
