About Lee Howell

Award-Winning Commercial photographer and creative retoucher Lee Howell is based in Edinburgh UK, specialising in advertising, fashion and contemporary editorial portraiture.

Equally at home working out on location and in the studio, his work is distinctive and unique in style, producing strong, vivid imagery, using a combination of photographic capture and postproduction technique to achieve his trademark style.

No stranger to success his talent has already won him numerous awards over the past few years in the categories of advertising, fashion and portraiture, receiving acclaim in 2013 for winning Gold at the Towergate Fine Art Awards with his image ‘Twins of Red Riding’.

His image ‘False Advertising’ was awarded 3rd place in the Prestigious IPA Awards 2013, in the category of Advertising, along with three honourable mentions in the categories of Portraiture, Fashion and Beauty.

Last year, after graduating in a BA in Professional Photography, Lee was awarded his Associateship into the British Institute of Professional Photography, securing BIPP Best Student Portfolio 2013.

Adobe recently recognised Lee’s work, naming him as one of their ‘Adobe New Creatives’, featuring his TRIBE project on the front of their Adobe Inspire Magazine, as well as choosing his TRIBE images to advertise the launch their new *Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 on the Adobe website, along with the launch of their new Bēhance Wallpaper App in the Apple store.

International interest in Lee Howell’s photography has seen him recently join Team Bowens, one of the industries key photographic lighting suppliers, as one of their advocate photographers, as well as being asked to talk about his work in Rome & Milan as part of the Creative ProShow team.

Recent projects have featured extensively on leading photography online recourses such as SLR lounge and Phlearn and his website now regularly receives in excess of 130,000+ page views a month.

More recently Lee was awarded BIPP Scottish Photographer of the year 2014 after winning several awards in the categories of Advertising, Industrial, Commercial, Open, Pictorial & Illustrative.

His work was featured extentively at the RETINA Scottish International Photography Festival 2014 and his Beaute Aviaire fine art series, where fashion meets feather was exhibited throughout the month of August on the busy streets of Edinburgh as part of both Fashionscape Europe 2014 and the Edinburgh Festival, before moving on to Oslo in September.

With more exhibitions planned for both the UK and overseas, interest in Lee's photography continues to grow from all corners of the globe.

One Eyeland have Lee ranked in the top 10 photographers in the UK and in the top 50 of world photographers for this creative style of image making.

“I try to approach all of my work with the same high amount of raw energy and enthusiasm. It’s all about having great concepts, bringing them into commercial practice and proving to the clients that you have a good creative mind as well as the technical tools to do the job.

I take a personal pride in building friendly, productive and professional working relationships with all those that the industry brings me into contact with and enjoy being involved with the creative input at all levels, rising to the challenge of each new venture or project, it is this passion that drives me”.
