Sean-Patrick Donovan’s Artist Statement

For Sean-Patrick Donovan the act of painting is about mortality. His paintings’ emanate from a necessity to create work that deals with the dilemmas he encounters. He visualizes mysteries of life through oil paint applied in many thick layers. The process of painting through multiple layers, with many manifestations underneath the final version, strengthens the work. It reveals the struggle of creating a painting just as we battle with life’s problems. The painting is finished when Donovan has created a raw, uncensored image of his struggle as he moves through life.
