About Me

SATORI CIRCUS is one of Detroit's longest lasting performance artists. Beginning as an idea of combining elements of music, film, theatre, slapstick, vaudeville, German Theatre, poetry and movement. SATORI CIRCUS has become the alter ego of Russell A. Taylor for 24 years.

Since its inception, SC has built up notoriety throughout the Detroit area. AS well as areas of Illinois and Ohio. SC has also been the recipient of mini-artist grants as well as awarded the 'Best Live Performance' from the Detroit Music Awards and a scholarship to the University of Michigan for a Masters in Art.

Past performances: EQUILBRIUM, Banter, Adam, the jONEses, MOLT, HA-HA, MOSES:39, Funy As Hell, Tongue in Cheek, Child-Proof, No Fixed Address and SongLines. All performances were widely anticipated by both the local media and past supporters, and covered extensively.

2009 has had SC performing extensively. In January, SC performed at Yale University in New Haven. In March, sang the National Anthem for the Detroit Roller Derby Girls National Championship. This past summer, was nominated by the Detroit Music Awards for 'Best Live Performance' and was nominated for 'Best Actor in an Original Play' by the Wilde Awards, and voted Detroit's Best Performance Artist by Real Detroit Weekly.

Over the past four years, SC has done an array of modeling for photo shoots with local and national photographers and videographers. The idea has been to cross pollinate and create performance for the camera as much as what fashion has done over the years for designers and models. Most of the shoots are not specific to any topic and cover many genres and many stages. The goal has been to take the character of SATORI CIRCUS and expose him to a completely different world and to explore the character and its depth in film: static and motion. From high fashion to fetish, to erotic, to runway. Locally SC has succeeded, but the hopes are to have a broader out-reach.
Cheers
