About Me

After a few decades of amateur photography I decided to take it up a few notches. My business is starting to grow, but I have much learn. Most of my business has been sports and weddings with some sideline portrait work. This site offer the opportunity to broaden my understanding of the photography business and the quality standards of experienced photographers.

To prepare for the business of photography I have invested in professional Nikon cameras and lenses. A parallel investment was made in high powered computers, monitors, photo printers and associated accessory hardware. My prior career with IBM for the decades of my amateur photography prepared me well do deal with the challenges of digital photography. My learning curves with Photoshop, Lightroom, Photomatix, Photo Mechanic and Pro Show Producer have allowed my to manage, edit and enhance the quality and the volume of photos I produce. My current going rate is about 4,000 images per month.

To solidify my previous base of dozens of photography books, along with several photo conferences and seminars I also invested in professional training. I graduated from the New York Institute of Photography's professional photography course with honors.

Photo groups that have helped me and that I have contributed to include the Monandnock Camera Club and the New England Camera Club Council Conference photo competitions have been a good starting point. I have received recognition for print and pictorial NECCC competitions. I am currently the webmaster for the Camera Club's first web site. I also have built my own websites with Site Grinder and Photoshop over the last few years.

In addition I have joined the Photographic Society of America to take advantage of there offerings. I belong to three study groups including the new High Dynamic Range study group which includes reviewing and enhancing other members images as well as getting their feedback on my images. This has been broadened and deepened my appreciation for a wide variety of photographic styles and approaches. In addition I have competed in the PSA's quarterly photojournalism and have received a honors in their competitions.

My sports photography includes rugby, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, softball, field hockey, track, cross country, swimming, football, and soccer. I have covered national college tournaments in women's lacrosse, rugby and softball. I have also covered tournaments for high school state tournament games in basketball, softball, field hockey, soccer and baseball. I have covered rugby at the college, national and international levels. My coverage of a women's National Rugby Championship led to being published in Rugby Magazine. My coverage of seven state basketball championships led to being a contributing photographer for the New Hampshire Varsity Magazine.

My local high school recognized me for mentoring a high school senior with photography and helped him decide to pursue a photography career.

The Monadnock Women organization has adopted me as their official photographer for their major events. They also select a Celebrated Woman monthly and I provide them with a portrait session of the selected women and my photo is included in the local newspaper.

These experiences in photography have been rewarding and enjoyable. My interest in expanding my horizons is focused model photography. Most of my current experience with models have been with the NECCC model program over the past few years. This has provided a base to start with, but it leaves a long way to go before my model business becomes as successful as my sports and wedding photography. I look forward to Model Mayhem membership as a good way to accelerate model photography from what has been only a sideline to date.
