About Me

My name is Michael Cress and I'm a photojournalist for the New York Sartorialist. Out of my love for fashion, style, elegance, photography and writing, I created the site to highlight what true style is through my eyes.

My photography tends to be somewhat editorial in nature without being too avant garde. I prefer ambient (natural) lighting and location shooting. I enjoy matching the model, their look and the story we're trying to tell with the right location, colors, patterns, props and atmosphere. I prefer to spend a little time with the person I'm going to shoot to get a feel for their true personality before taking the first picture. The most powerful images are when I can bring out and capture the soul of the individual, something that can only be done when both photographer and model are working together; that authentic personal energy. Any attempts at faking a look or mood is transparent to the viewer and falls flat. Honesty is radiant.

I'm fortunate to have ongoing opportunities to work with models, designers and individuals who are well-known as well as those beginning to establish themselves. I dare say everyone I've shot has been happy with both the process and the result. I would use virtually any one of them as a reference.

I'm frequently in Boston and do a fair share of work there as well. Always looking for more industry contacts in the Boston area.

I'm always open to new opportunities and ideas. The best way to contact me is at [email protected]
