About Me

Ana Paula Capelupo Negrão was born in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo in Brazil in 1977. Ana Paula started photographing skateboarding the same year she started skateboarding herself: in 1995.

Her first photo was published in Brazil's TRIBO magazine in 1997. Inspired, Ana Paula began shooting photos o skateboarding for many of Brazil's skate mags, and worked as a staff photographer for her friend Liza Araujo's girl's skateboard mag, Check It Out Magazine.

After high school, Ana Paula went to study Law at university, but after only a year she realized it wasn’t her passion. In 1998 she moved to Sao Paulo and started competing in skateboarding contests all over the country. She traveled to California at the end of 1998 and entered Vancouver, Canada's Slam City Jam contest in 1999. Seeking opportunity and new experiences, Ana Paula moved to Southern California in 2000 - shooting photos the whole time.

After living in Encinitas (San Diego) for two years, Ana Paula decided to go back to school in 2002 -- but this time to study photography and design. She graduated from Golden West College (Huntington Beach) in 2004 with a diploma in Graphic Design and went to SMC in Santa Monica from 2005 to 2006. In 2005 she moved to Los Angeles and has been shooting a lot of editorial work and music.

Today, Ana Paula is a freelance photographer for several magazines and skateboard companies: Reef Brazil,Quiksilver,Roxy,Maha,Etnies,Rock Star Bearings,Velvet Eyewear, Pony Attack and others. She has also shot fashion portfolios, and portraits. Her photos have been published in Transworld Skateboarding Business, Surfer Girl (SG), Cooler Mag(U.K.) Automatic (SD), Check It Out, and Industria (Europe), Brasil Best (LA) among others. In December of 2007 she’s got a cover of a dutch magazine called Roundabout (food magazine from Holland).

Ana Paula's favorite subject to photograph is people. "I really like to take documentary photography because it's a way to get to know the lives of people better," she says.
