The history of Otto Defey has been short but lively. After collaborating on a few auspicious projects, including the creation of Amanda's dreamy tea-length wedding dress last August and a popular, "denim brunch," at Arcadia Boutique, where the daunting chore of finding the perfect pair of jeans is made enjoyable with free alterations and mimosas, Sokthy and Amanda decided to design their own line of whimsical, romantic clothing.
Their pieces promise to be effortlessly feminine, with a playful fearless eye. This Spring collection was inspired by jaunty theatrics, like a puppet show in the park. "We want to create the pieces you reach for again and again. That compelling piece in your wardrobe you cannot stop wearing. Putting it just makes you smile." Otto Defey is inherently eco-friendly. Every piece in this collection is handmade in Philadelphia by Amanda and Sokthy, at times using surplus fabric.
The collection will be featured in a runway fashion show at Greenable, 820 N. 4th Street on May 1st, from 7pm-12am during Greenable's quarterly party, as well as the opening of their "Open Outdoor Market."
Otto Defey launches on May 5th during a Cinco De Mayo celebration at Arcadia Boutique, 819 N. 2nd Street. This event will also feature a "Peg & Awl," trunk show from local artists Margaux and Walter Kent featuring treasures for the home and body made from abandoned materials.
