About Me

I've been a full-time commercial photographer specializing in adventure, lifestyle, and travel the past 25 years; for ad, corporate, and editorial clients. I have a B.A. in Commercial photography from Brooks Institute ('€˜91) and have had freelance and contracted assignments with hundreds of publications and companies worldwide as well as authored/photographed two successful books: The BetterPhoto Guide to Exposure & The Complete Guide to Nature Photography (Amphoto/ Random House). I've traveled on assignment around much of the US, with International locations including Canada, Mexico, the UK, Southeast Asia, and So. America.

I bring a ton of lighting, outdoor, on-location, studio, and people/model experience to every shoot. To date, I've shot over a million images, written numerous articles, and currently working on a tv show on photography. I shoot with a 36MP Nikon DSLR, and prep images to make the final shots look their best.

I work a few ways:

1) I get commercial jobs where I need models, but often the clients want to select the models, so it's hard to tell who they will pick - pays well ($500-$1000/day), tough to know who they'll go with.

2) I get editorial jobs where I need models, where I can pick the models, but rarely does it come with a budget- sometimes, but usually very small ($50-100) - nice for your portfolio and future work, and good experience for the model.

3) I photograph models and I have an idea for a cool fashion shoot with them- I don't charge, we need a location, but I don't pay either since it's more of a portfolio thing for both of us.

4) I photograph models, collaborate with them for a few cool shots, charge the model $300-$500, prep and give me a number of shots to use for their portfolio (prep really nice final images touched up with the skin and minor issues in the scene), and help them pick their own best shots in their portfolio to make it look the best it can- as well as help them learn how to model better.

If you want to work with me, I'm always up for a shoot. I'm doing more fashion shoots and I always prefer planning out a theme or an idea or two, but it's really about creating beautiful fashion/lifestyle shots to me.

I use the images for my portfolio, my magazine articles, my social sites (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, etc), as well as my stock agency (licensing images).

I like showing models how they can improve their books and their acting ability in front of the still camera. As a pro and a male, I want models to be very comfortable with me, so I welcome any friends they wish to bring, and make sure they are completely comfortable with all shooting scenarios. That's the way it should be for any photographic experience you may have, with me or with another photographer.
