About Me

THE PICTURE IN MY PROFILE IS ACRYLIC PAINT ON CANVAS, IT IS NOT PHOTOGRAPHIC OR PHOTOSHOP OR PAINT ON A PHOTO, STARTED WITH BARE CANVAS AND WORKED A WEEK WITH PAINT AND COLORED PENCIL. Thank You.

Time to update this for the new year. In short I am an Artist living in Pensacola, who's work is often described as 'photoreal'. My training for the past decade or so is in realist techniques but this is a means to an end, not an end unto itself. My goal is not to reproduce photos, a printer does a much better job, but to simply approach all subjects with the ability to suspend the viewers disbelief when necessary. Being able to fool professional photograhers with a painting has it's enjoyment but is not the best use for ones talents, if the viewer thinks it is photographic than it may as well be.

Because of this discipline I have also had to become competent in photography as it is the best way to research the necessary subjects. I do not do traditional 'sittings' for portraits as I find they to often look forced, uncomfortable, and intrusive to the clients/subjects time. I find setting up the lighting and working with the subject to be almost as enjoyable as painting, almost.

I am very low maintenance, respect all the arts of modeling, photography, make- up etc. I greatly enjoy working with other photographers and models and seeing what creative energies can come out of the endeavor and am always looking for new artistic challenges.

Many times i am shooting artist reference, poses that will be a basis for lighting and silhouette but the final piece may have very little resemblance to the original photography. I am willing to work/shoot models who are looking for TFP but I prefer setting up compensated shoots and sharing some photos if the model requests so all of our needs are met. If you are a model looking for photos for your portfolio only then that too is fine as I gain experience in my photographic portfolio.

I do prefer to shoot out of a studio setting and enjoy traveling to a location for the spontaneity it provides.

I will be updating this page more often, the paintings shown are about a year old and somewhat out of date, references are available on request.

Feel free to contact me though model mayhem or visit my website listed above,

Cheers.
