What is it i do?
The wigs I create primarily utilise my skills in hairdressing, but I also draw my inspiration from sculpture, millinery and craft making techniques. I aim to create pieces that transcend hairstyles, pieces that are wearable art in themselves, but also harken back to my background as a stylist. Combining hair and objects is something I have always instinctively done. Starting my career at RAW Anthony Nader, I was exposed to all elements of hair and it’s role in the world of high fashion. I was drawn to the more bizarre and flamboyant aspects of this world, and have always been experimenting with hair in this way for many years. Moving to London in 2008, I was exposed to a wider influence of cultures and styles. Working at Willis B as Creative Director, I was able to work directly with people such as Michael Lawless, a former Creative Director at Vidal Sasoon. This new location and position, gave me a lot of room to pursue my love of interesting hair styles and wig pieces. Over the past few years, I have been able to hone this into the pieces currently on this site, with a few more in production. Definition of my work Within hairdressing, many people believe that you can only work with hair, whether it be styling or sculpting styles, it needs to remain made of hair. I challenge this idea fervently within my collection of wig making. Not only do I blur the line between traditional hairdressing and styling, I try to create work that is totally removed from working with hair. Some of my pieces do use hair and I do try to emulate more conventional hair styles. However, my main aim has been to push this line of what hair is, what styles can be. I have worked with organic and inorganic materials and I feel the pieces to date that are included here are my most successful. I believe it’s never good to limit yourself to only working within one methodology, and I hope that my work will inspire other stylists to start looking outside the salon and incorporate other objects and materials into their work. Bespoke Wigs The collection of wigs is available for editorial, advertising, theatre and film use, and for inclusion in exhibitions. I welcome anyone wanting to enquire about lending of the wigs and I am happy to consider all requests. If you are looking for something specific, please contact me to discuss your wig needs, I’m happy to collaborate for a particular event. Verified Credits (0)Worked with Shaun McGrath?
