I'm a professional nit-picker. That's my job. I look at a photo and ask, "what's wrong with this picture?"

Sometimes, what's wrong is pretty obvious. Poorly lit, problems with contrast or colours, a tree sticking out of your head, etc. Other times, maybe nothing much is wrong with this picture. BUt what is it supposed to do? Why was it taken? Why did you send it to me?

Our ports are our calling cards and our CV's. They say, "this is what I do". So I think it's of the utmost importance that our ports highlight and sell our skills and abilities.

If you are a MUA, especially if your work is mostly on the face, you don't need a lot of full body shots. Your port should focus specifically on your work, not on a pretty model or stunning background scene.

If you're a model, the photo should be of you. My job would be to ensure that the viewer's eye is continually drawn back to you, and not distracted by other elements of the pic.

If you're a photographer, then the entire photo needs to jump out at you from a page full of photos.

There are ways of doing each of these things, and it's my job to figure out how. I'm quite happy for you to send me a small jpg and ask my opinion. I'll tell you what I see, depending on what it's for. There's no charge for that, nor any obligation on your part to commission me to do any work.

I do retouching because I enjoy it. I am a digital editor, with many years experience using Photoshop. I'm not an artist nor a photographer, so this is my contribution to creating art.

I do charge a nominal fee for my efforts, but I don't work by the hour; I work until you're happy with the job. I consider my rates to be very reasonable. You could possibly get several photos done for what you'd spend on a typical Friday night out... and come Saturday morning, you'd have something to show for it. I must, however, have the copywrite owner's permission before editing.

I'm willing to confer with you during the process, to ensure that you're happy with the direction it's going. I can send small jpg's for your consideration if/when required, and I'll send you a large, watermarked copy for your final inspection. Only when you're satisfied, then payment via Paypal or any other means which we've previously discussed and agreed, and I'll send the full sized, unmarked file.
