The Filipino-American Shawn Bernal was born in Sandwich, Illinois, which is a small town southwest of Chicago. His love for movies and martial arts began at the young age of 4 years old when he was introduced to the Bruce Lee film, "Enter the Dragon."€ He started his formal martial arts training at 6 years of age and has been training ever since.

The combination of his love for movies and martial arts has led him to a path in pursuit of a career in acting and martial arts stunts. Through hard work and perseverance, Shawn Bernal has earned a black belt in TaeKwonDo, and a red sash in Northern Shaolin/Tai Praying Mantis Kung Fu, in which has also earned the rank of Sifu. In addition, Shawn also has trained in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Copiera, Eskrima, kickboxing, tumbling, screen fighting, stunts, sport karate, and break dancing. He has also been formally trained in acting at Act One Studios, which is one of Chicago's most recommended acting schools.

Shawn Bernal has starred in several independent short films such as “Ruthless,” which won 2nd place for the audience vote for the True to John Woo Short Film contest hosted by Midway Gaming and Spike TV.

He has collaborated with stuntmen from east and to the west coast, including members of the highly recognized Stunt People. He is also a member of the Chicago based stunt team called LBP Stunts.

In the latest news, Shawn has been playing the lead role in the noir series, “Those Who Go to Hell,” directed by Emmanuel Manzanares; he has been involved in stunts for the feature film “Cherry,” starring Kyle Gallner, better known for his role in "The Haunting in Connecticut" and the upcoming remake "A Nightmare on Elm Street."
