Why did I even do a second book ? Reason was simple. There are literally tons of cosplay photos available. Most focused on the finished costume at a convention or at a location but very few focused on the behind the scenes - the trips to the fabric store, the sewing group on Sunday afternoon, the moments before stepping on stage during a cosplay competition.

For fans of the first book, I maintain the portraits done with the grey background. Half the book are portraits, the other half focuses on the behind the scenes.

So I spent close to two years traveling to 15+ cities around the United States to follow cosplayers as well as do portraits with my familiar grey background. Thanks to Kickstarter backers, I was able to pull this feat off.

Along the way, I've met so many amazing people from teenagers to adults in their 40s - all passionated about creating their props and outfits. I feel very blessed I had such an opportunity to photograph them. I hope this book will give outsiders and insider view into the world of cosplay in america.

288 pages, 8x10, hardcover. Available online and at cons July 2015. Available at stores in Fall 2015.

Praise for my first book Cosplay in America (2010)

"Cosplay in America is a gorgeous tribute to the people who attend anime conventions... the layout is slick and the photos are lovely. Chuang did what I hope more people will do in the future, portray cosplay as art"

- BoingBoing.net

"Ejen Chuang's photographs do what similar photo books weren't able to do : show cosplayers as real people who like to dress up as fictitious characters. Chuang treats his subjects with respect, and honors their passion for the anime, games and manga that inspired their costumes"

- About.com

"Not just the most elaborately dressed or the sexiest, what you see is a cross section of costumed America ... each one is set in front of same black backdrop which lets you focus on the cosplayers and how much work they put into their costumes. Ejen's message is clear : they're the artist. He's just the photographer."
