About Me

My name is Dede Brown. I am a Bahamian, 29 year old female artist living and working in Nassau on New Providence Island.

After completing my Fine Arts degree at The Savannah College of Art and Design in June 2006, I returned home and began working full-time as an interior designer for an architecture firm, while pursuing photography and fine art projects in my spare time. In May of 2010, I made the life changing decision to become self-employed, a move which enabled me to integrate my skills and passion across three disciplines – Art, Design and Photography.

Currently, I divide my working time between my home office, a studio space at Popopstudios International Centre for the Visual Arts and site specific projects. I share my studio space with my partner and fellow artist, Dylan Rapillard. We have been a part of the Popop Community since April 2008, have had four successful art exhibitions together and take part in local community art projects and events throughout the year.

Integrating art, design and photography into one career has been a fun, fulfilling and intriguing challenge. Commercial, Weddings and Portraiture make up the majority of my photographic work, while my design work is centred on logo design, branding and advertising. My fine art has consisted mainly of two dimensional, realistic and semi-realistic paintings and drawings, with portraiture and the female figure being the principle subject matter. In the past few years, however, I have begun exploring new subjects and mediums, venturing into installations and sculpture.

My artwork and photography have been featured in several exhibitions in The Bahamas, an exhibition in England, as well as in online media, in print and local public spaces.
