Raised in Benin to a Beninese father and a Belgian mother, Monteiro’s
childhood is nurtured with multiple cultures.
He is trained as an Industrial engineer but starts working as a
professional model. His work environment allows him to develop skills,
knowledge and a savoir-faire for photography.
While traveling around the world as a model, he meets New York
photographer Alfonse Pagano in 2007. Pagano quickly becomes his
friend and mentor and teaches him the art.With his newly established
creative force, he strives to create a visual world that resembles his
image: a métis.
Hovering between photojournalism and fashion photography, he
developed a taste for portraits, and the intimacy and sensitivity it
reveals, particularly in his homeland, Africa.
And yet, while deeply and genetically bi-cultural, Fabrice Monteiro
does not fall in the easy bias of cleavage or parti-pris, on the contrary,
he cultivates all the aspects of his topic.
