About Me

My interest in photography started at the age of 11 with the gift of an Argus C-3 from my Dad. We were going to see the Red Rocks area in Colorado on vacation. Upon our return I got hooked after seeing those slides projected on the big screen in the living room. During college I was the photo editor of the campus newspaper and several campus magazines. While there I also started doing head shots for class officer candidates and actors and actresses in the theater department. This eventually lead to doing theatrical portraits and publicity photos for shows in the Rush Street area of Chicago. Around this time I also started shooting fashion for publication by several clients. After graduation the studio was active in these commercial areas for twelve years.

In 1980 we moved to Houston and I shut the studio and went into the computer software installation area for manufacturing companies as well as doing some consulting. From then until 1996 my photography was confined to personal work and the occasional family picture. My other area of interest, computers, had now taken over as the means of providing a living for the family instead of just being a hobby.

In 1996 I decided to do the mid life career change and go back to my first love, photography.creative energy to my photography. In preparation for the opening of a country studio we acquired 13 acres of rolling land near Montgomery, Texas north west of Houston. The basic studio is in place and landscaping of the grounds has begun. When completed in the summer of 1998 we offered one of the finest outdoor setting for photography in the country. There were be streams and ponds, nature trails, a gazebo, wildflower areas, a rustic area with horse trough and fences, and a large vine covered arbor.

In 2002 we closed the studio in Texas and moved to Knoxville Tn near the great Smokey Mountains. Once I finally decide to retire we look forward to opening a new location here to serve your photographic needs with classic portrait images as well as contemporary outdoor portraiture.

I hope this narrative will give you a feeling of where we've been and where we hope to go in the future. Enjoy a tour of the rest of the site http://www.crossedoaks.com and please think of us in the future when you need photography.
