Welcome to my Modelmayhem page. My website is under construction. (Where have I heard that before?) When it goes up, it will be www.allenshoots.com. I shoot for fun mostly. Though some of my work has been for pay, and published. I have been doing still and motion picture photography since I was 13 years old. I like playing with cameras, lenses, and most of all, with lighting equipment. I like doing Photoshop too, though not as much as I like shooting. Working collaboratively with a model, a make-up-artist, and perhaps a designer pushes my buttons far more than working solo in front of a computer. I think of myself primarily as a lighting designer. (Any knuckle-head can aim a camera and push a button.) I take pride in what I can do with lights, reflectors, and the like. And I am constantly working at becoming better at it, both through experimentation, and by studying the work of others. I usually shoot at my place since I have plenty of space, and all my equipment is at hand. At times, I shoot on location too. My home/studio is in the Hills near Universal Studios. You can get an idea of my style from my portfolio. I shoot beautiful sexy women. I purposefully emphasize their beauty and sex appeal. In the business, this is usually referred to as “Glamour.” Other guys like to shoot “Artistic,” or “Fashion.” Here the emphasis is on other things. There is nothing wrong with this. I admire lots of artistic and fashion photography. But it is not what I do. I am a glamour photographer.
On to a new subject. I have my likes and dislikes like anyone else. Lots of tattoos, hair that has been colored green or purple, or some other unnatural color, and piercings turn me off. Sorry if this is you, and you feel offended. It is not my intent to offend. Nor is there any need to feel offended. There are a million photographers out there, and plenty who can appreciate your “edgy” and/or “alternative” look. Just not me. What other pet peeves or dislikes might I have? Well, I really can’t think of any, other than the usual. If we set up a shoot, please be on time. Please don’t show up tired or hung over. Please set your phone on vibrate, and put it away. You can use it during a break. Please don’t insist on your music on the radio. And most importantly, please show up with a cheerful disposition. If you aren’t having fun, why do it? And the pictures turn out so much better when you are enjoying what you do. Attitude is everything. And I too try to keep the atmosphere upbeat and positive. I tell lots of lame jokes. But don’t feel obligated to laugh unless I am genuinely funny.

I am open to your ideas too. Let me know what you have in mind for the shoot. I am willing to try things that I have never done before. And every shoot need not be nude.
