As a child Hazel was always encouraged to create and dream. Inspired by her mother’s ability to work with many media of art and design, Hazel channeled her talents towards fabric and the dimensional art form of fashion. When only a high school student, she gained nationwide recognition by winning the “National Make It Yourself With Wool” contest. This influenced her decision to pursue a career in fashion, receiving a degree in Fashion Design from Lowthian College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Hazel has been working in the industry for the past twelve years. In 2002 she started her own business and began working under her label designing, engineering and manufacturing figure skating and dance costumes along with creating custom ladies’ clothing.

Hazel’s design aesthetic is classic, creating timeless looks that transition from day to night flawlessly. Her designs combine unique rare details, extraordinary fabrics, and quality construction engineered into every garment created. She works to create looks that fit the natural form of a woman's body with refined ease and wonderful movement in every piece. The Hazel Matthys Collection is meant to inspire women to be eternally beautiful.
