About Me

***Update*** I am working now and plan on making the move to doing more studio sessions and so forth plus I will be paying my models a bit more as well.

Hello,

My name is Kevin Gibbs; I am a Tulsa area photographer that is looking to further develop my portfolio in the area of Fine Art Portraiture. I have been photographing for the last 10 years and what started out as a hobby has developed into a more professional venture. I have been working with models consistently for the past 4 years and the equipment I am currently using is a Nikon D3300. I am also pleased to report that I have a new and updated website Kevin Gibbs Fine Art Photography and Portraiture the link is above so please be sure to check that out.

Now I am going to give you a little background on my influences and what I am looking for regarding models, assignments, and so forth. My favorite photographer is F. Holland Day and if you do not know who he is please google him but here is a little run down. He was part of the Pictorialism movement which had its origins in the latter half of the 19th century and continued on until about the end of World War 1. He specialized in portraits that resembled paintings and created a diverse assortment that focused on classical, medieval, and renaissance style portrayals usually of religious iconography. My other photographic influences include Julia Margaret Cameron, Minor White, Sally Mann, Josef Kouldeka, Imogene Cunningham, Pierre Et Gilles, Richard Avedone, and Sebastiao Delgado. I am also inspired by the films of Andrei Tarkovsky, Bela Tarr, Stanley Kubrick, and Ingmar Bergman, and the music of Stephan Micus, Gregorian Chant, and Beethoven. If you happen to look at any one of these influences you will see corresponding themes of meditative, spiritual, or contemplative like creativity and this spans many of these artists work and in the cases of Avedone, Kubrick, and Kouldeka you get not so much a contemplative attitude toward life but a depiction of cultural beauty and realism Avedone with his iconic fashion photos, Kubrick with his cinematic innovations, and Kouldeka by means of his photo journalistic representations of Eastern Europe and this is what I am essentially going for with my photography. I want my images to have the impression of an oil painting with a sensual yet slightly restrained imagining of a beautiful woman or man or else a reflective, somewhat melancholic outlook with a rendered cinematic black and white composition.

Now what am I looking for in a potential model well you can be any shape, size, color, gender, age I am not too selective in this manner. However, I ask that for now the models be relatively close to the Tulsa area mainly for gas purposes both theirs and mine. As far as compensation goes I will pay my models in both time for print and money I will pay you $40 a session and the sessions will typically last an hour and will be outdoors (for now).

So with that said I hope to begin hearing from all of you very soon, and I look forward to meeting and working with each and everyone of you as well.

Thank you,

Kevin,
