About Me

Hello,
My name is Judy Lee Allen. I first discovered the magic of a camera when I was about 11 years old, and my father lent me his Canon FTb to do a 4-H project on photography. I’ve come a long way since then, both emotionally and geographically, and growing up and discovering my adult self has required me to shed a great deal of the perceptive framework of my parents and the midwestern culture that I grew up in. Having moved around the country like a ball in a pinball machine for awhile, I eventually got to New Orleans, where from the instant I stepped out of the car on Prytannia street and smelled the Jasmine and the Honeysuckle felt like home. The sensuality of the environment and the relaxed atmosphere of the culture here inspired me to finally set down roots. Artistically, New Orleans is a very nurturing place and I am grateful for the opportunity to explore my creativity that this city has provided me. People are relentlessly fascinating to me, and I strive to reveal something about my subject, the viewer, and me with each image. In each of my photographs, I am looking for the truth, for that frozen moment of human vulnerability that cuts right through the noise and chaos of our daily lives and sparkles like a diamond in the dirt. I truly believe that a picture is worth a thousand words, and I want my images to show you that there is much more to us than the simple phrases we exchange every day.
I am here on MM looking for people who are interested in exploring with me, who are comfortable revealing something of themselves through the medium of photography. I believe wholly that this is a collaborative medium, and the final success of any image has to do with the dynamic of the interaction between the photographer and the model. Having been on both sides of the camera, I understand how difficult it can be to perform under demanding circumstances, and I promise to be easy to work with and to always show you in your best possible light.
With regards to compensation, for a full portfolio shoot I charge $250 for 2-3 hours of shooting, and I typically return about 15 retouched/photoshopped images. If you want to purchase prints, we can discuss that for additional charges, the printing house that I work with is very reasonable. If you are interested in shooting TFCD, contact me, and we can discuss it. Please bear in mind that our goals may be slightly different, and we will have to find common ground. If you want a straight portfolio shoot, please purchase my services so that I have the opportunity to tailor our results to your requests.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Judy Lee Allen
