About Me

I am a felt-maker who makes art to wear garments and accessories. I like to make really experimental work that combines painting with sculpture, though my business, Harlequin Feltworks, is mainly focused on scarves and wraps. Felting for me is one bit performative, one bit art and one bit craft, all wrapped up in a big fashion bow.

Felt is an ancient medium that is coming back into vogue and my sincere hope is that (felted) wool will be accepted as an art medium, such as paint or clay. Like paint, it is laid out in strokes of color and, after adding hot water and soap, it is worked by hand like clay to make fabric. It is magic.

Felt is beautifully theatrical under light and offers a uniquely soft-focused, color-intensive backdrop for make-up or hair. It can add a mysterious "what on earth is that?" element to images. Great for beauty shots or movement/dance too.

I am signed up on MM for the following:

*To hire models/photographers and stylists for specific photo projects related to my felt wearables.

*I also love highly experimental/artistic photographs and am delighted to lend pieces to the right project, to stylists or photographers.

I am willing to ship to other places if you give me a credit card number, to ensure that the pieces are mailed back.

*I enjoy collaborating with stylists or photographers to create custom pieces for special shoots. I can make practically anything with felt and photos give me the incentive to try new forms and push concepts/styles to impractical limits. Especially looking for conceptual, edgy, high-fashion images but also whimsical and other-worldy images.

Spring and Summer are good seasons for more ambitious photo projects. Fall and Winter can be a bit slammed with sales, so it is tougher to make unique items, though I am happy to lend what I have on hand.

No over-the-top sexuality/kinky, though. Absolutely no nudity...I adore the human body, but it scares my market.
