It is often difficult to describe the creation that attempts to be a work of art, even from the perspective of the one whom creates it. Yet, it is of some value to both artist and viewer; as an understanding of the forces at work within the artist. And, this fuels the direction and cultivates an understanding of these and future works.
I identify myself as a figurative artist. For me the figure represents both the greatest challenge in art and the greatest vehicle for expression. As the son of a photographer, I have always been interested how the human form is portrayed. And, from my current position, the female form seems the most expressive. In addition, the female nude is a socially loaded subject. Which I feel should undergo some reexamination. I myself am constantly reexamining the way in which I portray this subject, in reaction to both those who view my work and society at large. I have and advanced degree in anthropology and thus I am very aware of social mores and react constantly to them.
My technique is something that I would call realistic-impressionism. It is thoroughly representational. Yet, my method is purposefully alla prima in order to preserve a loose interpretation of my subject. All of my successful works have a subtle emotive quality that comes from my reaction to the image and the subject.
Influences are vast and varied, in anyone’s lifetime. In form, I am influenced most heavily by turn of the century French art. In general, the color perception of the impressionist and post-impressionist I find attractive. Stylistically I most admire John Singer Sargent. Though, I do not endeavor to be a portrait artist; his expressive portraits seem to me to have captured the uniqueness and beauty within each subject. Apart from Sargent I am enamored of the likes of Manet, Sorrola, and the Pre-Raphaelites for their emotive figurative works. Contemporarily, I identify with the emerging figurative artist of Southern California which have brought expressive figurative work back into the spotlight.
The aim of my current work can be distilled in this way: My figures are meant to be viewed as individual people, imbued with personality and an emotive quality. My hope is that the people represented in my work will be viewed as individuals whom themselves are objects d’art, not as generic representations of ideals. The current viewpoint taken in my work is in examining the unconsciousness of beauty; … a moment in time when one is doing and thinking and is unaware of the beauty that they are a part of.

I am looking to find female models who are unique and can express a certain individual character. I am not interested in representing a "Barbie-like" ideal. I wish to represent individual and singular people.

Due to the fact that I am not yet fully supporting myself though my artworks I can only offer to pay the model at the sale of the work for which they have modeled.
