The National Portrait Gallery has selected one of my prints for the 2011 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize currently exhibiting.

I consider my photography as art, perhaps spelt with a capital A. It is important for me to create without commercial constraints, no financial retribution is offered, but I also refuse to accept payment for photography - the images created must be free from anything but artistic merit.

Once upon a time I took photos for record sleeves. Now concentrating on portraits about what it means to be nude, to be seen naked, the nature of our skin. I shoot on medium-format film only. I want to create images that look back at the viewer upsetting their preconceptions of 'art nudes'. (I don't shot art nudes I take portraits of naked people).

Most of my images are pre-thought set pieces, evoking potential stories brought to life by collaboration with interesting people, never just a 'model'. The goal is something both intriguing and unsettling. Both staged and real... a contradiction.

I am interested in people in all shapes and ages, rubenesque sits wonderfully in my world. Anyone outside the usual body shapes and age groups are particularly encouraged to contact me.
