About Me

I am a freelance professional photographer and image editor specialising in Commercial Photography, documentary photojournalism and Event & Travel Photography.
I am also an experienced Image Editor and Photographic retouch artist.

I have been working in all aspects of the photographic arts for the last ten years. My professional photography experience includes photojournalistic/documentary photography, theater photography, live event photography, music and fashion photography and on set unit photography for film.

A Masters Degree graduate in Image and Communications from Goldsmiths University of London, I specialised in photography; both digital and analogue techniques including lighting and composition. Technically I operate using Adobe Camera Raw, Photoshop and Lightroom I use advanced retouching and image editing techniques to create seamless realistic imagery. I am also skilled in a variety of post-production software such as After Effects and Final Cut Pro.

As a practicing photographer a lot of my inspiration for ideas come from the idea of transient space... what happens to an area; when through time it's purpose and it's focus changes... people come and go business's come and go yet that space is still there and changes occur over it's lifetimes... there is a melancholia or loneliness attached to it seen from a perspective of the onlooker looking upon a scene tainted with imagery from a bygone time waiting for it's time once again. I actively pursue themes within many genres of photography ranging from Landscape and 'urban' photography to still life, street photography and lifestyle issues such as tattooing and body art. I myself tend to find interest in darker themes especially when I concentrate on street photography and portraiture and I actively search out inspiration throughout London’s many facets and cultural identities.

Many of my favourite photographers tend to come from the past generations masters such as Gary Winogrand, William Klein, Sebastiao Salgado and W. Eugene Smith amongst many others. I also take inspiration from street photography, graphic design, graffiti and modern art as well as books on illustration and design. I have been intrigued by linguistics and semantics for many years which has led to an interest in the origins of language; two of my favourite authors being Marshall McLuhan and Noam Chomsky and through this inspiration I try to instill my photography with a cinematic and filmic feel or atmosphere.

As well as models I'd like to get in contact with any Hair/ MUAs dancers or choreographers who would like to collaborate on making a joint piece of art using photography to express their medium .. If you have an idea and you want to put it together with photography, I can also add video and maybe even sound design to the mix.. but I'd like to meet vivid characters for this project.

Please feel free to get in contact with me here, on gmail, here at www.gearoidhayes photography or even through LinkedIn if you have a profile there.

At the moment I can only offer a time for portfolio [tfp] or time for disc/files [tfd] Rest assured the images you get will receive in return will be of the highest quality, taken with empathy and a love for photography and collaboration, all project images will also be credited to the artist partaking in the project and will be free to use in their own portfolios.

I'm very interested in hearing from you, meeting you, collaborating and photographing your creative process.
