Joan Finn is a professional street painter or Madonnara.
She creates large masterpieces on the pavement in chalk pastels.
This art form originated in Italy around the 16th century
when artists called Madonnari would grace the pavement
near churches and plazas with images of the Madonna.
After discovering this art form at a street painting festival in
Kansas City, she has performed at several festivals since. Her chalk art performances celebrate the the theme for the event. She have ventured into the realm of 3d anamorphic works and optical illusion. I have worked with dancers and musicians and other models while creating my works. I love the interaction from the  public as I create my art. As master accordion player, Joe Burke, of Galway, Ireland, said in reflecting on his musical career, " I never imagined that one day I would have my face painted on a piece of sidewalk as big as the state of Texas!"
