About Me

I've been a freelance photographer since 1987, when I began taking photos of rock bands for a city newspaper.  I am also a producer, along with 3 others who collaborate on client-based projects.  However, this information mostly pertains to my own photographic work.  Projects are almost always paid work, with 3 exceptions:

1.  We are having a "go see" or test shoot and meeting to find out if we can work on a specific project.  In these cases, a client is allowing me to either choose models or help to find models that may fit the look of who they want to hire.  Or, there are upcoming projects that I would like to consider you for and need to have test shots on file.

2.  While I enjoy meeting and working with almost everyone, occasionally I see someone who I find to have an exceptional mind, skill, look - or maybe all three.  For photographers who mostly work for clients and have to shoot specific things, it's important for creative development and enjoyment to keep shooting new ideas.  So, there are a few models that I collaborate with simply to "shoot outside of the box" and to "cross lines."  It's always exciting to meet someone who has this same kind of creative fire.

3.  If we are working for a charity

For the next few months, I'll be working on several projects, which are briefly described, below.  Please send a note if any of these interest you...

1.  Stock and Lifestyle work is ongoing, as are headshots and model portfolio enhancements.  I also do product photography for an automobile manufacturer and spec. work for advertisements and product packaging.

2.  Last year, I signed on to do work for a European company that owns and operates several exclusive, membership-only sites of a mature nature, marketed only in Europe.  This is not the largest part of my work, but it has become a lucrative source of regular work for me and for several models.

3.  An exciting project that focuses on strong women, who have been through tragedy, trauma, or abuse.  It will show that women can still be beautiful... often, even MORE beautiful... after living through terrible things.  Each model's story will accompany her pictorial.  Any tattoos or scars that represent these events will be focused upon, but they are not required.  There are several uses and outlets intended for the images and stories.  Feel free to send a note if this would be a good fit for you, and I'll respond with details.  THIS PROJECT BEGAN A WHILE AGO AND WAS PUT ON HOLD BY THE CLIENT.  I EXPECT THAT IT WILL RESUME IN THE SPRING.

4.  Now through August:  I'll be working on a project called "Women of the World," which focuses on pictorials of women from as many different countries and types of heritage as possible.  This is a culturally and genetically diverse project, so if you were born in another country or have heritage from another country, please submit.

5.  "Driven Women" is a pictorial series of truly beautiful women who are accomplished in their various fields of study, or work.  These women are exceptional, inspirational, and sensational... a true "club" of Type A personalities and/or girls with Beauty and Brains... well, and maybe a little Brawn, because they aren't afraid of much!

Thanks for viewing my page.  I am a photographer, interested in creating many types of images, from artistic and experimental to commercial and lifestyle (stock) work.  I welcome models interested in the following types of modeling and photography:

Fashion
Glamour
Commercial
Stock
Lifestyle
Artistic Nude
Erotic
Headshot
Portfolio Enhancement

I also do the following types of photography...

Architectural
Landscape
Nature
Industrial
Portrait
Street
Spec.

If you aren't familiar with all of these areas, just ask me about them.

In addition to commercial work (which can sometimes limit creativity, depending on what the client wants), I photograph models, landscapes, scenery, interesting people in their natural habitats, animals, etc.  To some degree, I allow models to bring their own creativity into the photographic process, when they have ideas to share.  I also enjoy using Photoshop, but enjoy raw and real images just as much.

TFP / TFCD:

I don't have much time for TFP / TFCD, but as I wrote above, I do this when I find someone who has potential and needs professional pix to boost their portfolio, or with more experienced models who have ideas and abilities that I can lend the lens to.  If you request a TFP shoot, I want you to have images that will help to move your career forward.  I am interested in building ongoing connections with those who enjoy working with me, and whom I am continually excited about photographing.  If there are certain looks that I would like to shoot, I will ask for those, and in turn, if you want a certain type of look or theme, I will be open to that.

You will have both High Resolution images for your portfolio and for printing, as well as Low Resolution images for web, emailing, etc.  I prefer to have my mark remain on the images, however, I may make exceptions... just ask.

I sometimes transform some of the images with Photoshop, so you can have some dramatic color and effects, also.  If you have special editing requests, then let's talk.

PAID ASSIGNMENTS:

On some occasions, a client will ask me for recommendations on which models to use for an assignment.  They usually ask me to email a few photos of models that I recommend for the look and specific shots that they need.  Having some exceptional photos of you to show them is beneficial for both of us.

Stock Photography is a niche of photography that involves taking specific types of photos that can be sold to advertising agencies, website developers, authors, editors, and others who need images of very specific things.  These images may be used as the cover of a book, as a background for an ad for a hospital or store, as a header for the top of a website (such as the model with the mirrored sunglasses that you see at the top of this page), etc.

We can have fun and be spontaneous when taking some of these, but for the most part, I will be taking these photos to sell... therefore, they will be images that are more "useful" than "artistic."  You will be able to see the website that they are sold through, and also see how many times these have been sold (just like you can see when someone views your photos or leaves comments on MM).  What makes me different from many photographers who do stock photography is that I will share the money from the stock photos with you every time one of them sells... and the same photos can sell one  time... or a THOUSAND times.  Please be aware that modeling, photography, seeing your work in various places, and making money can be FUN, SEXY, ARTISTIC, and INTERESTING... but they are also HARD WORK!

Personality is important when you're working with someone.  I've met both photographers and models on both ends of the spectrum, as far as being professional and also, simply being NICE.  I am definitely not "The Angry Artist," but more of the open-minded guy with a desire to collaborate and create art and something stunning, special, different... interesting.  I have a lot of patience, and want to bring the best out of everyone, so I can just about guarantee that you'll enjoy working with me.  If you share some of those goals, then let's talk!

Wishing you SUCCESS!

Daniel

P.S.

Just to clarify a couple of things that I commonly see...

1.  All models sign releases and must have at least one state-issued photo ID to prove that they are at least 18 and legally allowed to sign a release.  2 forms of ID are preferred and are occasionally required by clients.  Models have rights to images in many cases.  Whether the client or the model and I retain rights and any limits of usage will depend on the project, and I'll gladly share that with you before shooting.

2.  If we haven't worked together before, we will usually spend a few minutes either before shooting, on the phone, or possibly in a go see, before the shoot date so that we can not only discuss ideas, wardrobe, and other details - but so that we are comfortable with each other.  I don't allow friends or escorts to shoots (a dog might be ok if it's cute and well-behaved).  The reason for this is simple - Would an employer allow you to take someone with you to another job?  Why?  Because it's distracting, and it breaks the positive flow of energy or the creative connection, or whatever you want to call it.  It's a lot like taking a test in school if a teacher is standing behind you and looking over your shoulder.

So, I encourage you to read remarks and tags, email models who have worked with a photographer, or carry some pepper spray.  Knowing that each model that I've worked with has been completely at ease during the shoots, and many have become friends, I can definitely say that while I want everyone to be safe, there's no point in shooting with a model that's nervous, anxious, or unable to feel comfortable.  Good work just won't happen.  I do understand emotional disorders, general nervousness, etc. - especially with new models.  And, I'm completely understanding of this.  Thanks!
