About Me

I'm a recovering engineer who is enjoying learning all the cool things he can do with a photograph, aspiring to create a scene that deserves some consideration.  Inspirations include geometry and technology, Weston and Mapplethorpe, Penn and Newton, the real and the surreal, myth and reality.

I love talking to photographers and models about their techniques and interests.  I want to have fun, and create images I can be proud of.

Particular interests include fine art nudes, glamour, pinups, and B&W portraits.  I also enjoy concert and theatrical photography.  I'm eager to hear your thoughts on that or any other project you might have in mind.  I am a partner in a spacious studio, shootatumbralux dot com.

"I had a wonderful movement shoot with Joe in July 2022 at Umbralux Studio Frederick Maryland. The studio is a wonderful space with backdrops, a nice white wall, wood floors, exposed brick and natural light. He is one of the studio owners and I highly recommend working with these guys if you get the chance. Joe has a really unique style with his work and I really had a fun time!" Read less
