About Me

Akia Uwanda has graced several runways with my "looks like she's walking on air" stride.  I have been featured in numerous beauty magazines such as Blacktress, Sister 2 Sister, Manhattan Bride, Hype Hair, and Today's Black Woman. My presence and runway style have gained me international recognition by winning 1st place in the International Model of the Year 2001 contest sponsored by Today's Black Woman magazine in New York City.  I have performed at numerous affairs, such as singing the National Anthem during a 2004 Jacksonville Sun's baseball game, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Annual Cure Drive in 2007. I was also featured at the 2004 1st Annual Mayor's Family Summit. Akia has starred as the lead role in the original musical/dramatic play entitled, Majigeen, as Anta, as well as Velma in Crowns, and Lorrell in Dreamgirls at the Alhambra Dinner Theatre in Jacksonville, Florida. My performances as Effie  Dreamgirls, at the Premier Hair Show in Orlando, Florida, and the Global Beauty Hair Show in Atlanta, Georgia, were received with rave reviews.  I also train models for the high fashion runway industry and do makeup as well.
