There is a juxtaposition of light and dark which gives a sense of incredible tension, creating an immediate gut reaction for the viewer. Looking into the different aspects of the light, there appears to be a pattern on both sides of the model that look like images of Christ upon the crucifix, giving the clenched musculature meaning and story in the composition. It's not just a 'pretty' picture... I see a story of a fighter calling upon his own strength of convictions to pull him forward into the next frame. NOT a run-of-the-mill photo. Beautifully exectued.
