Hello, I am new to the USA

in Australia makeup artists all get 60% off at wholesalers and I am looking  for information as to where to buy makeup in California and Nevada please

I've been a photographer for 9 years and model on here for 9 years too and I am trying to get into makeup so that I can offer full makeover shoots, but nobody will tell me anything about where to go

Try the fashion district in downtown Los Angeles.  There are thousands of wholesalers there selling all types of items.  I'm sure there are some that specialize in makeup.  I have seen some items at some of the accessory places that I shop at there.  Stick with the wholesalers however.

Best of luck to you!

I would be hesitant to get anything off mainstream markets, there are a lot of chinese products and fake products out there, quality and safety are questionable.

For an annual subscription fee of 20 or 25 dollar, you would get 25% discount at MAC pro stores or their online site. much safer and better but still, not cheap.

On the other hand, try makeup aisle at Wal-Mart or Walgreen's (more expensive than Wal-Mart, You can't beat Wal-Mart prices).

skysimone many (the majority) of major brands offer "Pro" discounts...
However you must meet and/or exceed their requirements to qualify...
Example: Here is a link to apply for a MAC Pro Card

You must be a working professional and provided documentation...
Such as Named Tear Sheets, Call Sheets in which you are listed as Craft Services, a professional (commercial) website with portfolio, Agency Representation (must furnish credentials) a Cosmetology License... a Makeup Artist License... Esthetician License etc.

My MAC PRO Card allows me to get 40% discount on product.
Same with my TEMPTU Artisan PRO Card... albeit they recently dropped this to 30%
Also have a half dozen other Pro Cards which range from 25% to 40% discounts...
Sallies recognized my license thus I get a discount there...

You'll discover that major brands are rather guarded about whom they provide discounts to...

The reality here it's not about product, it's totally about the skill and tenure of the artist...
Where you received your training and/or who you trained under can be a huge factor in seeking a Union Card...

In your market area MUD Los Angeles Campus is now and has been for decades a preeminent institution of choice for those seeking a professional career in makeup artistry... I would suggest you consider enrollment in their program if your are indeed serious about working at the commercial level...

What I'm sharing here is at the commercial level consumables are but a minor component of operational expenses... I usually have to layout far more for transportation, parking etc than product doing an assignment...  Product btw is a pass through expense... It's built into my bid for a job, also into my posted rates for bridal etc.

Hope this helps...

This hairstyle  Youtube channel - a couple of the hair videos show where he buys his beauty supplies (don't recall which) - but near the beginnings (within 3 minutes)   - looks like a back alley location from the outside (parking) - giant wholesale beauty store on the inside. (Los Angeles)

In Los Angeles the 3 major suppliers to artists are Frends, Naimie's and Nigel's. They all offer good discounts to pros.

Muse Beauty Pro, Camera Ready Cosmetics, and Alcone are major suppliers online.

In Los Angeles the best schools are Cinema Makeup School and MUD. If you want stand alone classes, check the Powder Group's website and imgoingtoclass.com. These will direct you to the best classes by professional, working, successful artists. Anything else is just a waste of time and money.

I offer a pro discounts on varied levels depending on amounts bought.  Many of the manufactures have a set pro discount for which you can apply.  And many do offer whiolesale accounts but some of the big named companies require you to buy quite a high dollar amount yearly in order to buy wholesale. Haappy to help you figure it out. Just contact me.
