Hello MM!!

My name is Batty and I been here a while bouncing on and off to check out things. I currently work as a Chef in a fine dinning restaurant and am looking to change that but I must confess that I need help!
Modeling has always been a dream of mine due to my love of art and the hugely dramatic makeup and outfits.
My dilemma for years now has been my lack of knowledge and contacts to get started. I understand that I'm not going to just start making a fortune and be done with work as I would really like to be a freelance model and contract my image out.

To be honest I have been lost for a while because I kept getting discouraged trying to get jobs and such because the only ones I vet offered are scams.

Please help me out here, I need someone to help guide me threw getting in, help me meet some people and get contacts.
Thanks for all of your time!!!

Welcome to the Mayhem hienvy

Good ways to network are:

Post an availability notice letting people know that you are available (under the casting/travel tab). This is for when you want to charge money. You can offer trade as well.

Search for Casting Calls in your area based on criteria you select. Post a Casting Call letting people know about an idea you have and want to put into a work of art. This is for when you are willing to pay other people. You can offer trade as well.

Search or Post Casting Calls and Travel/Availability Notices
Official Casting Call Rules - Read
Find the talent and resources you need on Model Mayhem

Browse for photographers in your area and leave comments on images you like, send a friend request or message. Start a list of photographer's photos that you think are top notch for photographers in your area. This can become something of a Rolodex. Make sure that you select the Advanced Options and select an appropriate Logged in within:. I typically use 30 days, but you may want people who respond faster. Otherwise you will get photographers who haven't logged in in over a year. There are a lot of inactive accounts.

Make an announcemnet. Look on the front page for members offering comments for comments, and comment on their photos. Also make an announcement yourself.

Post a bulletin by going to My stuff > bulletins. Friends can see the bulletins you post.

Be active in the forums, but avoid trolls who start threads just to watch the ensuing flame war. Avoid threads that beat the deadhorse over GWC's, flakes, escorts, ..., etc. Use the forum search to look for posts on your topic. Make positive constructive comments. Whenever you get published, add some new photos, or accomplish anything in general, post an announcement in the Accomplishments, Achievements and High Fives forum. When people see your forum post the first thing they see is your avatar. It has to be interesting enough for them to want to click on it and look at your portfolio.

Share your other accounts on the Social Media User Name Sharing Thread.

Rinse and repeat.

Good luck in your search!

I'd say with your stats & lack of shooting nudes I doubt you'd make much money from modeling, so keep your day job and model as a hobby smile smile

^^ This ^^

You can have fun modeling.  You can set goals, work on them, achieve them and earn a sense of accomplishment.  You can build on success.  You can use modeling to develop and promote your clothing line.  But the chances of paying your bills every month with modeling is pretty unlikely.  If $ is your measure of success, then you're in for an uphill battle.  If achieving other goals is your measure of success, then write down your goals, short and long term, and go for it.

I'm not sure why you would feel that way with my not doing nudes..there are more then enough paid jobs that do not require nudity.

I am also not 100% sure what you mean by my stats. I need to go and edit my profile here in the next few days but I'm still kinda confused.

What paid modeling jobs are you qualified to do at 5' 2" & 152 lbs that another model would do for TF?

Filles gave you the best advice. There really is no shortcut to meeting people and getting contacts but within the links Fille provides you'll find the surest roads.

I think what most of the people here are trying to say is that if you want to make some money off of modeling, you need a product that is marketable. You are the product.

Step 1 is putting together a book (your port) that shows that you have something to offer that people will want. Your current port, as it is, does not do that. It is below average and shows no traits of a port of a professional model. Your bio says you have been on MM since Nov., 2013. That's a year and a half to develop a passable port. And yet, it's no better than the profile of someone who just started last week.

As a model that wants to get paid for modeling, you need to ask yourself, why should someone pay YOU to model. it's not a generic question of, "Should models get paid for their work?". But rather, YOU in particular. Why pay you when there are dozens of other models that will do it for free? What do you bring to the table? It's a hard question to ask, and some don't like the answer. But it's what needs to be done if you want to work (not just play) in this business.
