"NY ModelHouse"
I was contacted recently by a NYC photographer who told me about a model house called, obviously, NY Model House. Apparently it's a brownstone in Manhattan and models who want to move to NYC for the first time or who just want to stay for a little bit can live there, for free, for short or long periods of time. The only catch they claim is that you attend a few of their events a week, which could also be a great networking opportunity. Naturally this sounds too good to be true and I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this or has actually done something like that before? Thank you! Mar 25 13 10:13 am Link If it's real, it sounds damn sketchy. Do what everybody else does and share a studio apartments with 4 other people. Mar 25 13 10:19 am Link This sounds like a modeling variation of the timeshare scam. Mar 25 13 10:20 am Link I heard of something similar to this recently. A poser on here that is trying to promote this type of deal. This is real, but they are basically pimping out models to go to their events as "eye candy" to draw crowds etc. So you stay rent free, they pay for everything but what they don't tell you is what you should worry about. Who has access to this place? Who is paying for it? What kind of security do you have away from home, from parents, friends etc? The danger is hidden in the details they don't speak of. This sounds exactly like the scams they use to trick unsuspecting females in these third world countries into prostitution. I can't prove it but it sure looks familiar.... If nothing else you should know by now that nothing is free, especially in NYC. Mar 25 13 10:33 am Link there was somebody on this site with that name... but the portfolio is gone now. take from that what you will. Mar 25 13 10:45 am Link "C'mon in, it's all good".....said the spider to the fly. Maybe legit....but I'd be pretty leery. Mar 25 13 11:17 am Link lacking first-hand references from multiple llamas, I'd say pass Mar 25 13 11:26 am Link Kate Hyland wrote: Why do you think it sounds so good? Because you're not having to officially hand them money for rent? You're living in a brownstone with multiple other models who are all working these "events" to pay off their debt. Mar 25 13 11:35 am Link Well they claim they only pay for housing- travel to NY, food Mar 25 13 11:46 am Link Kate Hyland wrote: Claims are just that, statements to lure you in...I would decline if I were you. Sounds to risky and dangerous. Stay where you are! Notice how they reached out to you knowing you are new on this site. They prey on people who don't know... Mar 25 13 11:53 am Link Kate Hyland wrote: You wouldn't mind because you have no idea what the events are, how much they'll be making from your work, how many hours they'll demand, how it'll interfere with your modeling plans. Mar 25 13 12:15 pm Link so they're paying your way and you don't know anyone or have any money so probably couldn't get away from them even if you wanted and you have to do what they want (whatever that may be). sounds like a recipe for sex trafficking. i know one model who lived in a house sponsored by teaseum. so it could be legit. but i'd do some serious homework first. I used to know exactly the name and location of the operation, but I've been away from the NYC crowd for far too long. but basically it was like this, housing was available only for females, No Guests or visitors, and a strict curfew. Allowance made for jobs and such, but in short, you couldn't stay there if you were a party animal. Mar 25 13 01:13 pm Link ontherocks wrote: Wow. I expected an accompanying video of Joan Collins from Dynasty scratching the eyes out of Linda Evans. Mar 26 13 10:20 am Link um, hold that thought. there are allegations that the director of black swan is the one who knocked up natalie portman. of course you can't believe everything you read on the internet. then again is lindsay really drinking water in those carafes? lol Michael Pandolfo wrote: Mar 26 13 10:38 am Link I just got a message from probably the same photographer.. I added the model house on facebook, and this is what they sent me. (I figured it is a scam as well) As you likely know by now we run a model house in Upper Manhattan of NYC. We've been running it since September of last year and it has been a great experience. There we allow models looking to break into the fashion industry or just looking to be in New York, live in our fully furnished home rent free! It is a really nice four story brownstone with 8 bedrooms in it. Each room has two queen sized beds which means each model shares a room with one other person. It’s in a great area and is half a block from 4 major NYC trains that are 10 minutes from Times Square. It’s traditionally used as a bed and breakfast so there is a cleaning staff that cleans the bathrooms, kitchen, and common areas weekly. Several modeling agencies have had model houses in New York that also offer a similar service, however they offer smaller accommodations (like 6 girls living in one room) and charge exorbitant rentals that you don't pay up front, but have it taken from your future earnings. With us, none of that is the case. Our models live in the house RENT FREE! "What's the catch?", we are sure you are asking yourself. We run a high end promo company that brings models, socialites, and celebs out to the top clubs, lounges, restaurants, and events. So, four to five days out of the week we require the models in the house to attend high end clubs, restaurants, exclusive events, etc, which will also help to build your network and further your career. So yea, it's WIN WIN! You just attend the assigned events and you live in the house rent free. You can spend your days going to castings, go sees, and visiting agencies. Or you can get a day job or just sight see if you are on vacation. Models are allowed to stay in the house for short periods or for long periods, as long as they are fulfilling their obligations and not breaking any of the house rules. Travel to NY, food, and everything else is on you. We just provide some amazing networking and a fully furnished cozy place for you to live. We also have a partnership with a model management company but cannot guarantee that all chosen models will be represented so we do not promise anything aside from free board in Manhattan in exchange for your attending of our events. But we will at least make an introduction. This is no scam and is 100% legit. This is also NOT an escort service of any sort. Aside from doing things that can help advance your modeling career like having you shoot with some professional photographers, etc, we don't ask of you to do anything aside from coming out to the events. There are currently eight models living in the house. We have several rooms available now for March 27th – April 5th move in and are taking interviews. Models can come for short visits just to check out the city and the fashion scene or we allow models to stay for longer periods. 10 to 14 days is typically the minimum amount of time. If you are interested in coming sometime between now and the end of March (we have 4 spots we are looking to fill pretty quickly) we will be conducting live online interviews today (Wednesday, March 27th) throughout the day and in the coming days. Please let us know when you would be free and we can try to squeeze you in. If you are interested in coming some time between April 6th and August 15th hit us back and let us know that and we will set up an interview with you for today or in the coming days as well. You are not 21 so many places won't let you in at all. You are not 5'10 so runway work and professional modelling work is almost completely out of the question. You are young and away from home and a target basically. Don't be a target, stay home. In NYC, models are a dime a dozen. Why would they need models from some other state? I will tell you why, because people with brains that live here don't trust them either. Stay away for your own safety. The MM account that probably suggested me (sir cass maya) is now gone. Coincidence? I don't think so. By the way that photographer tried to tempt me by saying that NY Fashion Week is coming up. Reason: not helpful Apr 13 15 08:22 pm Link Really? Where in nyc is it? I think promo was spelled wrong! Maybe porno? Apr 16 15 08:54 pm Link This may be legit. I visited a "Model House" in Manhattan in the fall with a model friend of mine. There were maybe 20 agency signed models living in a 4 bedroom apartment in Manhattan. They did not pay rent, but had to work nights at clubs doing drink promotions and such. With all of those models, there was plenty of drama, and it did not seem to me to be the healthiest of places. It may be something to check out. You could visit and meet with the other models who reside there. Just stay away from the drugs and alcohol which really deteriorate some of these models fast.
