This was a straight fashion shoot image shot on a 5D2 with a profoto BD against a white wall.  I fiddled with PS to come up with a Daguerrotype look.

What do you think?  Any constructive criticism is welcome.

I've actually done a few Daguerreootype prints. But to digitize it? Probably easier to actually do it for real.

But that's not a bad effort though.

thanks,

though it's not easier just to do.  for starters, you need the camera, plates, dark room, chemicals.

and then there's the issue that the chemicals used to poison the people who used them.

Hence why my university try's to talk students out of doing it. But we have a professor who specialized in alternative processes who will teach it if we request it.

I think what you mostly lack in the picture is the texture that is giving the other the look. additionally do they have a wider range of brightness values, while your image is pretty dark and lacks highlights.
(compared to the 2 images digital vinyl posted, if this is the look you are after)
if you send me the original image and 2-3 examples of what you are exactly wanting to get I can give it a go and send you the psd file so you see how i did my attempt.

I did an experiment once, the Civil War re-enactors have a live fire event here every Jan.( including shooting cannons at targets!!;-), I shot a group shot of one of the companies. In processing (digital) I blew out the contrast, I then printed the photo on a clear acetate, then laid the print over a sheet of reflective window tint! Ersatz daguerreotype!! Try it!!

I have a flickr set of tintypes I bought on ebay and scanned at very high resolution, if you'd like a good, close look at them.

Feel free to extract any holes, scratches, rough edges, etc from them if you see a use in your work.

You may need a flickr account to see them at full resolution; I'm not sure.

I cannot be constructive about that image.

But the rest of your work is terrific in my opinion.

You are a long way from a Daguerrotype.  I have done this,  back in the 1950's  My suggestion is to stay far away,  These are chemicals that will send up  big danger signals  and could cause you to spend  a long vacation in an Island south of Florida.

I'd like to have some of whatever "chemicals" you're on.
