Over all I would say nice work. One way you make your images stronger is by removing the duplicates and the shots with blown out spots. Less is always better then more. What I remember now as I write ithis is the severely blown out white...

Do you want to be known only as someone that photographs nude females?  If that is the market you desire, great.  However your portfolio as it stands now is going to scare any many fine atractive models who prefer not to do nude poses.  A little variety of styles would be nice.

charlie, i really have no desire to do anything but nudes, i dont get to shoot often  (about 4-5 times a year) so i try and make the most of it, i get so frustrated not knowing how to light the image that i have in my mind. i will shoot fashion as a favor to the models who work with me, but its really not worth my time to look for more fashion work. thanks for the insight on the business side of things though, you make a srong point for other photographers out there.

You need more vibrant colors in your images to make them *pop*!

I would agree but that is the way I see things.  I think Robert likes earth tones and nudes.

Good for him.

Stronger in what sense?

- Public, or Market appeal?
- Conveying a message, an emotion?
- Soliciting an emotion, or response?

every once in a while i see an image that just  takes my breath away, not sure what it is, apnea has a few (mm#7339), so i guess that i am looking for something that tugs at an emotion, i havent tried to market any of my images yet, not sure that i have really found my style yet.
thanks for such an insightful question, it will help me look at my shoots a little differently.
i'll try to add some more color at my next shoot, see where it takes me.

Try "Lighting the Nude:Top Photography Professionals Share Their Secrets" The amazon.com link is here:

Very informative, inspirational book. Shows an image, and beside it the lighting plan used to create the image.

Good luck!

Composition.

Work on framing your subject so it appeals on its own without any trick of Photoshop or color.

That's what will make your images stand out.

not sure what you mean by bleedy and how i should fix it, i am shooting with hot lights, some old smith victors, and need to shoot at pretty slow speeds.

Any good book on photography or art will have a chapter on the rule of thirds. I have an older book on my shelf called (oddly enough) Photographic Composition by Tom Grill & Mark Scanlon. It's still in print. Flipping through it, I see it has some good advice.

My mom is a painter and I come from a family of artists, so composition has been drilled into me from a young age.

I feel your pain regarding the Smith-Victor hot lights. I shot with a set of those for about a year and got some great material. They can still be better than flash when you want a narrow depth of field - it's hard to shoot flash @ f4 and not blow out your subject. The shot of Tyler you mentioned was shot with only 1 500 watt hot light to camera left at 45 degrees to the subject, f3 @ 1/30 of a second.

The shot "victoria" is quite nice. I'd like to see it without the diffuse glow which makes it hard to look at for any length of time.

The nipples are very arresting, and therefore the focal point of the shot: the left one pulls the eye into the picture and the right is nicely profiled against the background.

I'm too lazy to type and think about it.

This should point you in the right direction.

I checked and there's some good info in these few pages.

As was written above, photography is not an abstract concept. You can read all the books you want, buy a lot of fancy equipment, but the only way you're going to improve is to shoot. A lot. Try for 2-3x/mo. You'll be amazed at how quickly you improve. G'luck!
